50 years ago today

ADAMS -- Gerald Godek, son of Mrs. Catherine Godek of 53 Spring St., a seaman member of the U.S. Naval Research Surface Unit 1-14, has returned from four weeks of naval training. The first two weeks of basic training was at the Great Lakes (Ill.) Naval Station and then was flown to Brooklyn Navy Yard and assigned to the USS Remey for two weeks of aboard-ship duty. NORTH ADAMS -- Mary Wojcik, a senior at St. Joseph’s High School and daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Andrew Wojcik of 15 North Summer St., Adams, has been honored for her high performance in the National Merit Scholarship qualifying test given last spring. Miss Wojcik will receive a formal letter of commendation, signed by Sister St. Coletta, principal of the school.

25 years ago today

ADAMS -- David Clark, Adams Police patrolman, has been keeping busy lately, but not on the street -- in the classroom. Mr. Clark, who has been a patrolman for more than 11 years, has been teaching students at the Adams-Cheshire Regional School District this year about drugs. Last summer, the Adams Police Department sent Mr. Clark for a two-week training program for teaching Drug Abuse Resistance Education at the State Criminal Justice Training Council in Needham.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Three women from the area recently represented Berkshire County 4-H at the Eastern States Exposition Horse Show. The delegates, Carrie

MacDonald, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Joseph MacDonald of Billings St., Lanesborough; Elizabeth Elder, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Elder of Longview Ter.; and Carin DeMayo, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard DeMayo of North Street, attended the Exposition.

10 years ago today

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Both the preschool "Side By Side" and kindergarten programs at the Williamstown Elementary School were recently granted accreditation by the National Association for the Education of Young Children. David Rempell, principal, said, "We are extremely pleased to have been recognized by our early childhood programs."

NORTH ADAMS -- More than 175 runners enjoyed picture-perfect racing conditions at the Greylock Federal’s 5-Kilometer Fall Classic. Kent Lemme of Williamstown was the first-place male finisher and Wendy Cwalinski of North Adams was first-place female.
