NORTH ADAMS -- An Adams man pleaded not guilty to drug charges in Northern Berkshire District Court on Friday after his home was raided by the Berkshire County Drug Task Force.
Mark A. Durant, 46, of Summer Street, was arraigned on one count of subsequent offense possession to distribute of a Class D drug -- marijuana, subsequent offense possession to distribute of a Class B drug -- Percocet, conspiracy to violate the drug law and distribution of a Class D drug. A pretrial hearing has been scheduled for Nov. 5 with the potential for Durant to be arraigned on the charges again in Berkshire Superior Court in Pittsfield.
According to a report written by Adams Police Det. Lawrence Ordyna, marijuana with a total street value of $1,700 was seized, as well as Percocet with a total street value of about $180 and $360 in cash.
"It’s an ongoing investigation, but the operation is part of a larger one in the area," Ordyna said Friday.
The investigation involving Durant had been ongoing for a few years, and was brought to the task force’s attention by a combination of neighborhood complaints and information from informants, he said. There will also likely be other people facing charges, he said.
According to the report, a "knock and announce" search warrant was executed on Durant’s apartment at about 2:52 p.m. on Thursday.

A plastic sandwich bag with about 2 ounces of dried marijuana, and packing material, were found in the basement, according to the report.
Durant told Ordyna he would cooperate, and proceeded to show him where marijuana and Percocet were hidden in the apartment, the report said. Durant also showed them a tin with plastic sandwich bags with about 3 grams of marijuana, an unmarked prescription bottle with eight, 15-milligram pills of Percocet, one, 15-mg pill of Percocet in another unmarked prescription bottle and $360 inside another tin.
Durant was then arrested and taken to the Adams Police Department.
