STAMFORD, Vt. -- The 4-H Basters and Tasters met Wednesday at the home of Mrs. Eugene Sweet. Baked apples were prepared by Jacquelyn Emmons, Robin Bowen, Cathy Hohn and Ellen Whitham. Apple crisp was made by Donna Bushika, Diane Arnold, Kristin Fabricius and Cheryl Sweet. NORTH ADAMS -- Pvt. Bruce Roberts, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Roberts of 10 Miner St., left Wednesday to report to the Redstone Missile Arsenal at Huntsville, Ala., where he will attend electronics missile school. He enlisted in the Army last Dec. 27 and completed basic training at Fort Jackson, S.C.

STAMFORD, Vt. -- Stamford Elementary School students and teachers concluded "I Love to Read and Write" month with an "In Celebration of Reading" party and awards presentation. A gold medal and $5 certificate for a local book store went to Isaac Murphy, Samantha Lawrence, Hawk Thompson and Daniel Potvin for reading the greatest number of hours.
NORTH ADAMS -- CPDC defeated Jarisch Paper 24-17 recently in the Northern Berkshire YMCA Girls’ Basketball League. Carrie O’Brien scored 10 points and Julie Ozolins had four to lead CPDC. Breck Baker was the top scorer for Jarisch with 11 points, followed by teammates Tracy Rougeau and Amy Rondeau with two points each.

NORTH ADAMS -- Army Reserve Pfc. Aaron Pry has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Knox, Ky. During the nine-week training, he received instruction in drill and ceremony, weapons, rifle marksmanship and bayonet training, chemical warfare, field training and tactical exercises, armed and unarmed combat, military courtesy, military justice, first aid and Army history, traditions and core values.
