NORTH ADAMS -- Eight North Berkshire girls left to take part in a special 4-H sponsored "Career Prevue" to be conducted at Boston business places, industries, hospitals and colleges. The girls are Rosalind Apkin of North Adams, Nancy Rogers and Suzanne Zappula of Florida, and Jennifer Harrington, Nancy Herrmann, Carol Kirby, Barbara Perrier and Betty-Jo Williams of Adams. The "Teen Tour" is deigned to aid Massachusetts 4-H members in pursuing future careers. NORTH ADAMS -- Pvt. Raymond Galli, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lino Galli of 42 Spring St., has been assigned for a special training course to the 4th Training Regiment at Fort Jackson, S.C. Galli, who completed basic training earlier this month at the South Carolina base, will take part in an eight-week period of military vehicle instruction designed to prepare him for the future role of light vehicle driver.

CHESHIRE -- Naval aviation structural mechanic Edward Tinney, son of Ward and Marion Tinney of 105 Depot St., has completed 15 weeks of training at Naval Air Base, Memphis, Tenn. His courses included training in the repair and maintenance of all pilot survival systems of the A 6 E intruder aircraft. Tinney joined the Navy in June 1987.
CHESHIRE -- Army 1st Lt. Michael St. John, son of Charles and JoAn St. John, has participated in exercise "Northwind 88" at Hokkaido, Japan. The purpose of the exercise was to conduct deployment training, cold weather mobility and survivability and improve interoperability and cultural exchange with Japanese allies. St. John is an assistant operations officer with the 1st Brigade at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii.

NORTH ADAMS -- The Northern Berkshire YMCA Betta swim team held its year-end party and awards ceremony on March 13. A team trophy was awarded to each member of the team. Team members are Britnee Bohl, Selina Bohl, Lorna Burnham, David Button, Monique Cariddi, Ryan Galusha, Aubre Garand, Jess Grees, Tyler Grees, Joslyn Juif, Amanda Krutiak, Elizabeth Lincoln, Michael Munzer, Bethany O’Neil, Karissa Perras, Nicole Romano, Kayla Rowett, Tonisha Smith, Kara Senecal, Jennifer Vanuni, Jordan Vanuni, Emma Whitney, Julia Whitney, Danielle Wineberg and Griff Woodyard.
NORTH ADAMS -- After being laid off in December 2001 from the job she’s been at for 25 years, a city woman used the setback as an opportunity to follow a life-long dream and work with the animals she has adored all her life. Donna Garner’s layoff from Commonwealth Sprague led to training as a professional dog groomer, and on April 2 she opened "Wag’n Tails" at 147 State Street, the former Lovely Nails location.
