NORTH ADAMS -- Artemis Gargal, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Steve Gargal of 11 Central Ave., a Drury High School student, has been chosen delegate to the 1963 Girls’ State session at the Bridgewater State College June 14-21. Wendy Sanders, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Howard Sanders of 83 Barth St., is the alternate. WILLIAMSTOWN -- A.2.C. Francis Snide of the U.S. Air Force, has been spending a 30-day transfer leave at his home on Maple Street, prior to reassignment to Elmendorf Air Force Base in Anchorage, Alaska. He is the son of Arthur Snide and enlisted in the air force in June, 1961, and completed his basic training at Lackland AFB in Texas.

FLORIDA -- Cub Scout Pack 76 held a candlelight ceremony April 29 in the town of Florida to award Bobcat badges to eight members. Ronald Gottstein, cubmaster, assigned by Gabe Bonneville, presented the badges to Allen Cormier, Brian Gottstein, Nathan Gregory, Alden Jones, Mickey Lescarbeau, Nathan Poirot, Daniel Spooner and Jesse Trudeau.
WILLIAMSTOWN -- Seven sixth graders from Williamstown Elementary School traveled to the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Boston to participate in the state championships of the Massachusetts Future Problem Solving Program. Members of the team were Vanessa Jacobsohn, Brooke Meade, Michelle Radin, David Ware, Bree Neely, Sara Baker and Steven McPherson.

ADAMS -- In the first game of Adams-Cheshire Babe Ruth baseball, Hoosac Valley Coal and Grain defeated Cheshire, 5-4. Adam Wright got the win on the mound. Richie Soriano took the loss. Nate Hadjas went 3-for-3 for Hoosac Valley, while Justin Gladu and Steve Albareda each had their first hits. For Cheshire, Matt Markland led the way with two hits and Joe Davis had his first hit.
NORTH ADAMS -- Sean Carollo has been named as a finalist in the 48th annual National Merit Scholarship Program, according to Drury High School Principal John Solari. Merit Scholarship finalists represent less than one percent of all high school seniors. The finalists were selected on the strength of their accomplishments and abilities.
