NORTH ADAMS -- Relay For Life of Northern Berkshire will kick off with a special Survivors Lap, a moving experience honoring those who have defeated cancer, on Friday, May 31, at 6 p.m.
Survivors and their caregivers will join together to take Relay's opening lap, unified in victory and hope, while the rest of the event's participants surround the track to cheer them on.
Relay For Life is a grass-roots fund-raising event in which individuals and teams of participants in more than 6,000 communities nationwide walk around a track overnight to celebrate the lives of those who have faced cancer, remember loved ones lost, and commit to fight back against the disease.
The money raised through Relay For Life supports the American Cancer Society's efforts to create a world with less cancer and more birthdays. The theme for this year's event is "Colors Of Hope."
Each team has been asked to decorate its campsite with the colors of cancer. They will also be conducting a "scavenger hunt" with prizes being awarded. Each team is encouraged to participate in some sort of fundraiser making the event fun for all ages to attend. There will also be many fun activities for adults and children to participate in.
To take part in the Relay For Life of Northern Berkshire, cancer survivors or caregivers should call the American Cancer Society at 1-800-227-2345; visit www.RelayFor Life.org; or email Jennifer Boucher, chairwoman for Survivorship Committee, at john
