NORTH ADAMS -- Police are looking for details on a knife assault that occurred Tuesday morning in the area of Porter and Blackinton streets.
North Adams Police Sgt. James Burdick said Thursday that the victim, a 21-year-old white male, entered Xtra Mart on Ashland Street at roughly 12 a.m., on Tuesday, and collapsed, prompting the clerk to notify police.
"He was bleeding pretty heavily and after the officer's initial assessment, was brought to North Adams Regional Hospital," Burdick said.
The injuries included lacerations to the head, face and body. The victim remained at NARH, where he was treated for multiple knife wounds, Burdick said.
Just as the victim's name was not released, neither was information about potential suspects. No arrests had been made in connection with the assault as of Thursday evening.
"It's currently under investigation by the detective's bureau," Burdick said. "In this part of the case, we have to keep [information released to the public] kind of generic." This is due in part to the fact that releasing suspect information too quickly can sometimes cause suspects to flee the area, hampering the police investigation.
According to Burdick, officers are "following up on leads" and anyone with any information in the case should contact the North Adams Police Department.
