PITTSFIELD -- A body found in Pittsfield on Tuesday appears to be that of a 21-year-old man who’s been missing since Aug. 6, authorities said.
Evidence found at the scene and other information leads investigators to believe it is Michael Gokey ,who was last seen at his home on Highland Avenue.
The discovery was made by a Massachusetts State Police K-9 unit in a wooded area west of the Pittsfield Cemetery, in the vicinity of Vin Hebert Boulevard, on Tuesday afternoon, according to a statement from the Berkshire District Attorney’s Office.
Police do not immediately suspect foul play.
"An autopsy will be conducted by the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner, and a positive identification is expected to be made within the next several days," according to district attorney’s statement.
On Friday, police asked for the public’s help in locating the young man after his foster parents reported him missing.
At the time, police said authorities didn’t suspect "foul play or suspicious activity" surrounding the disappearance. But police said it was "unlike him to go missing for several days."
