Monday May 20, 2013 PORTLAND, Maine -- Red tide monitoring is going high-tech with a robotic "laboratory in a can." A garbage can-size canister was deployed in late April in the ocean waters off southern Maine to collect and transmit data about toxin-producing algae blooms, known as red tides, that show up in the Gulf of Maine each spring.   Full Story
 
Monday May 20, 2013 RUTLAND, Vt. (AP) -- A Vermont company that makes hard cider is suing a Vermont coffee company for trademark infringement over the use of the word "woodchuck." Vermont Hard Cider Co. filed a complaint against Woodchuck Coffee Roasters in U.S. District Court last week seeking an unspecified financial award and an injunction preventing further trademark infringement   Full Story

Saturday May 18, 2013 Courtney Keating, daughter of Bill Keating of Lanesborough and Sally Keating of North Adams, has been named to the dean’s list for the fall 2012 semester at the University of New England in Maine. Saturday May 18, 2013 NORTH ADAMS -- A 19-year-old Adams man who allegedly fled police on a motorcycle this week was charged with traffic violations in city court Friday. Saturday May 18, 2013 May 18 50 years ago today ADAMS -- Michael Pliska, son of Walter Pliska of 38 Randall St., a sophomore in electrical engineering at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y., was honored in the final ROTC review of the year. He received the Troy Savings Bank award as the sophomore in Naval ROTC with the highest proficiency in naval weapons.   Full Story

CHESHIRE -- After a year hiatus while the new middle and high school building was under construction, Hoosac Valley Middle & High School held its 10th career fair on Thursday. More than 50 business representatives participated. NORTH ADAMS -- A press release in Wednesday's Transcript for Saturday's "Zumba for a Cure, Dancing in the Street" event listed an incorrect time for the Northern Berkshire Relay for Life fundraiser.
