NORTH ADAMS -- Two representatives from the local Welfare Department will attend the 25th annual state Public Welfare Conference at Harwich from Wednesday through Friday. They are Agnes Naughton and Caroline Pincombe. Miss Naughton is the supervisor of old age assistance, while Miss Pincombe is a clerk on the welfare staff. ADAMS -- Brownies of Troop 3, sponsored by St. Thomas Parish, had a court of awards and fly-up ceremony yesterday morning at the Parish Center. Special project awards went to Linda Gigliotti, Kathy McNeil, Linda Saliba, Susan Urquhart, Karen Trzcinski, Barbara Cross, Joanne Kosiba, Gloria Roy and Cheryl Mirke. Fly-up wings were presented to Jacqueline Galipeau, Mary Jo Gigliotti, Patricia Demers, Judith Wojieck, Beverly Clark, Marilyn Baker, Cheryl Brassard, Donna Robert, Jean Powers, Joan Gelino, Margaret Vigiard, Karen Gallagher and Linda Gigliotti.

NORTH ADAMS -- Ashkar beat Waverly 8-3 in the P&R Women’s Softball League. Winning pitcher Missy Floriani struck out 10, allowed six hits and two walks. Jill Moncecci has two triples and a single. Gail Lesure had three hits, and Dianna Richardson and Sandy Brooks each had two hits for the winners. Diane Lesure was Waverly’s top hitter with a double and triple. Judy Adamczyk, Connie Wittig, Phyllis Lefebvre and Teresa Greer each had a hit.
WILLIAMSTOWN -- The problem solving team at Mt. Greylock Regional High School took third place in a 180-team international problem solving competition in Michigan last week. Team members Margaret Stovell Jonathan Bolton, Kimberly Levin, Matthew Grinnell and alternate Andrew Ruthven competed at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.

NORTH ADAMS -- Local students received degrees from Western New England College during commencement ceremonies held in May. Lisa Bourdon, daughter of John and Min Bourdon of North Adams, received a bachelor of science degree in chemistry. Christina Satko, daughter of Thomas Satko of Adams and Lynn Satko of North Adams, received a bachelor of science degree in criminal justice.
NORTH ADAMS -- The COTY Youth Center will commission the next Haiti Plunge team on June 21. The team will depart at 3 a.m. for the airport. The team members represent six Berkshire County high schools. They are Katie Lockenwitz from Monument Mountain; Phil Tower, Ryan Hoffman and Andrew Antil from St. Joseph High School; Nicole Lora and Erin Blanchard from Drury High school; Emily Snyder and Sarah Heslip from Mount Greylock Regional High School; and Jeff Hermanski and Caitlin Irvin from Pittsfield High School.
