NORTH ADAMS -- A North Adams man, who was named as the outstanding airman in the entire U.S. 8th Air Force for the last half of last year, has been promoted to the grade of airman first class. He is Raymond Sanders, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Grogan, of 133 Ashland St., and a personnel specialist in the 4305th Support Squadron at Westover Air Force Base, Chicopee. NORTH ADAMS -- Ronald Mativi, son of Mr. and Mrs. Arthur Mativi, of 145 State St., who enlisted in the Navy two years ago, has received a promotion in Alaska. He has been advanced to the rate of utilities man third class in Mobile Construction Battalion 9, which is now engage in construction and rehabilitation work at a naval station on Adak Island in Alaska.

ADAMS -- Lois Paluch, daughter of Theophile and Leona Paluch, of 8 Park St., has been promoted to the U.S. Air Force rank of senior airman. She is an information systems operations specialist at Barksdale Air Force Base, La., with the 46th Com munication Group. Airman Paluch is a 1983 graduate of Hoosac Valley High School.
ADAMS -- Val’s Variety rolled to an 11-3 victory over the Elks in Adams Little League baseball action. Val’s got two doubles and four RBIs from Kurt Singer, while Jason Bouvier went the distance for the pitching win. Dave Kalisz had a two-run homer and added a double for the Elks. Mike

NORTH ADAMS -- Paul Gaeta has been named sports editor of the North Adams Transcript, Editor Kevin Moran has announced. After two years as a sports reporter for The Berkshire Eagle, Gaeta, 24, decided it was time to take a step up in his career. He will pick up where former sports editor Kris Dufour left off. Dufour was named the paper’s managing editor last month.
ADAMS -- Nathan Ciara and Chad Gilman, both of Adams, received degrees from Western New England College in Springfield. Ciara received a bachelor’s of science in electrical engineering. Gilman received a bachelor’s of science in computer science.
