ADAMS -- Bruce Bennett of 7 Bellevue Ave., treasurer of the Hoosac Valley Motorcycle Club, won the New York State sportsmen’s hill climb championship yesterday at Palatine Bridge, N.Y. Second place was taken by James Hoellerich of Bucklin Road, also of the Hoosac Valley Club. WILLIAMSTOWN -- Five students of Mt. Greylock Regional High School, members of the Bennington Squad ron, Vermont Wing, Civil Air patrol, have been awarded certificates of achievement by the Department of the United States Air Force. The young men are John Lindley of Simonds Road, Nelson Pel lerin Jr. of Henderson Road, Curtis Poirot of Hall Street, Daniel Duprat of North Street and Neil Hanlon of North Street.

ADAMS -- Sarah Geist and Debbie Janik of Adams have completed work for the Gold Award, the highest award in Girl Scouting. Both are members of Senior Troop 127, left by Karen Geist, and both attend Hoosac Valley High School. Requirements for the Gold Award include a challenge service project, career exploration through volunteer or paid work experience, and completion of four interest projects.
ADAMS -- Wesley Carpen ter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Carpenter, graduated with honors on May 23 from Norwich University on the University’s Military College of Vermont campus in North field. Upon graduation , he was commissioned as an ensign in the

NORTH ADAMS -- Solid defense helped Gringos to an 8-1 victory over Cafe Hair in Northern Berkshire Women’s Softball. Chris Howard led Gringos going 4-for-4. Mary Scanlon was 2-for-3 and Missy Parisien was 2-for-4. For Cafe Hair, Sue Choquette, Tony Bassett, Becky Duquette and Tonya Record all had hits.
NORTH ADAMS -- In A Division North Adams Men’s Softball, Saulnier Surveying edged Altiere’s 11-10. Al Marceau and Jeff Meehan both had two homers to lead Saulnier. Mark Gilman, Kevin Meehan and Shaun Wright all had two hits. Rob Moore had three hits, including a home run, to pace Altiere’s. Mike Haring and Jason Davignon had a pair of hits each.
