50 years ago today

NORTH ADAMS -- Four Northern Berkshire Civil Air Patrol cadets left for Griffis Air Force Base in Rome, N.Y. and a 10-day CAP encampment. They are Cadet Tech. Sgt. Joan King of Adams, Cadet 1.C. William Moreau of North Adams, Cadet Basic Gloria Messina of North Adams, and Cadet Basic Gilbert McNicol of Williamstown. NORTH ADAMS -- Pvt. Raymond Luczynski, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Luczynski of 116 Protection Ave., began three years of Army service June 25, has been assigned to D Co. of the 2nd Training Regiment at the U.S. Army Infantry Training Center at Fort Dix, N.J. for his basic training. He signed up for service in Army administration and expects to be sent to the Army's administrative school at Fort Benjamin Harrison, Ind.

ADAMS -- Jacqueline Cardonnel of 68 Alger St. has joined Century 21's Adams office at 52 Park St., Frances Buckley, president of Century 21, Harold Dupee Realtors announced. Ms. Cardonnel is a graduate of the Lee Institute of Realty and is a member of the Berkshire Community Board of Realtors.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Dr. Charles O'Neill, a specialist in obstetrics, gynecology and infertility, joined Williamstown Medical Associates on July 1. He has just completed his residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.

Men's Softball, Altiere's defeated Saulnier Surveying, 8-6. Jamie Dupee, Adam Codogni, Brent Wiencek and Ryan Auge all had two hits in the victory, while Joe Champney got the win on the mound. For Saulnier, Mark Gilman had two hits and Al Marceau and Jesse Hakes each hit solo home runs.

NORTH ADAMS -- In recent action from the North Adams Men's Basketball League, Flynn & Dagnoli defeated Broderick Electric, 93-66. Charlie Bashnagel scored 24 points in the winning effort. Stacey Castle netted 24 while Lydall Waller scored 17. Jim Mauer scored 17 to lead Broderick while Sean Stevens and Lou Cuyler each scored 15 points.
