Suspicious parcel closes Main Street

NORTH ADAMS -- Main Street was closed for about half an hour late Friday afternoon after a suspicious package was found at a bus stop.

Fire Director Stephen Meranti said firefighters used a thermal imager to determine the contents of the package, which were a yellow and white baby dress and a small hat.

"You can never be too cautious with something like this," he said.

While the package didn't appear to be threatening, they still had to take precautions, he said.

The suspicious package was reported to police by the Berkshire Regional Transit Authority at 5:28 p.m.
