NORTH ADAMS -- The promotion from first lieutenant to captain of John Begiebing, son of Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Begiebing, of 24 Blackinton St., was announced by the Army. Capt. Begiebing’s promotion took place at Bad Kissengen, Germany where he is serving with the 14th Armored Cavalry Regiment. NORTH ADAMS -- A North Adams girl, Juliann West, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas West, of 863 Massachusetts Ave., will be graduated Sunday from the Franklin County Public Hospital’s School of Nursing at Greenfield. She has accepted a position on the nursing staff of the North Adams Hospital and will begin her duties Sept. 10.

NORTH ADAMS -- Little’s Auto Body beat Corner Market 16-4 in the Men’s P&R Softball League. Bruce Gelinas smashed a three-run homer for Littles, Joe Maruco had a triple and five singles, Jim Darling had three hits and Jon Vanuni had a solo home run. Corner Market scored three in the sixth with the help of a Brian Gallagher RBI single.

NORTH ADAMS -- Altiere’s Bar and Grill defeated the Green Mountain Greyhounds 79-61 in the Men’s Summer Basketball League. Paul Gaudreau was high scorer for the winners with 21 points, followed by Jack Racette with 18 and Ken Sprague with 15. Tom Crosier had 16 points to lead Green Mountain, Rick Crosier had 13, and Steve Pratt added 11.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- The Women’s One Day Member-Guest Tournament was recently held at Taconic Golf Club. The format of play was a four-person scramble using two tee shots of each member of the foursome. Gerry Baker, Pat Barnett, Barbara Dwyer and Barbara Price took first with 59. Terry Siciliano, Lisa Drabik, Julia Pringle and Marcia Peterson were second with 65.

NORTH ADAMS -- Steven Coody, son of Debbie Coody of 150 Ashland St. and William Coody of Central Shaft Road in Florida, has completed basic training at Fort Sill, Okla., and completed his advance individual training at Fort Jackson, S.C. He is now stationed in South Korea.
