50 years ago today

CLARKSBURG -- Katherine Osborn recently completed a summer course entitled "Supervision in the Modern School." It was given in Pittsfield by the North Adams State College. Miss Osborn has been named supervising principal of the local school system. She has been teaching in Clarksburg for 20 years. WILLIAMSTOWN -- Walt Pringle of North Adams won medalist honors yesterday in the annual Taconic Golf Club member championship tournament, carding 72, one over par. Jack Fabricius posted 73, Dr. Chester Budz, 75, Jack Fres sola and Walt Schroeder, 76 each, and Dave McLelland, 78.

25 years ago today

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Ed Budz, Peg Daniels and Dick Bush were among the winners of various club championships at Taconic Golf Club. Budz posted a three-round total of 218 to capture the 1987 title of club champion. Daniels, with a 36-hole total of 176, is the women’s club champ, while Bush shot 161 to win the senior title.

NORTH ADAMS -- Little’s Auto Body defeated Excelsior 13-12 in the Men’s P&R Softball League. Jim Darling had three hits for Littles and teammates Don Therrien, Keith Hayden and Bruce Gelinas each had two. For Excelsior, Dave Boyer, Mark Lavigne, Kevin Erdeski and Mike Gladu each had two hits.

NORTH ADAMS -- Staci Downey, daughter of Michael and Susan Downey of 54 Chestnut St., graduated

May 19 from Anna Maria College in Paxton with a bachelor of music education. She is employed by Reid Middle School in Pittsfield as a general music teacher.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- The National Science Foundation has awarded Williams Associate Professor of Physics Protik Majumder a $230,200 three-year grant in support of his project, "Precise Atomic Structure Measurements and Tests of Fundamental Ph ysics." At Williams, he teaches courses throughout the undergraduate physics curriculum.
