50 years ago today

NORTH ADAMS -- A North Adams sailor has had the opportunity to visit a half dozen Mediterranean ports since his ship joined the 6th U.S. Fleet overseas in early summer. He is Seaman Ap pren tice Thomas Cullen Jr., son of School Committeeman and Mrs. Cullen of 218 Pros pect St. He began active duty in the Navy on July 6, 1961. WILLIAMSTOWN -- Spe ci al Patrolman Fred Walden Jr. has passed State Civil Service examinations for police duty in Williamstown. Patrolman Wal den was appointed by town of ficials earlier this year to take up the slack created by vacationing Williamstown police officials this summer. His ap pointment is provisional.

ADAMS -- Members of Girl Scout Brownie Troop 535 from Adams recently presented 12 handmade stuffed toys to Berk shire Medical Center. Each of the Scouts designed and embroidered her own stuffed animal, which were donated to the Pediatric Unit. Members of the troop are Michelle Singer, Rian Gas pardi, Emma Demastrie, Amy Duquette, Chrissy Satko, Jor dan Carpenter, Laura Ziemba, Christine Armstrong, Kathe rine Malloy, Julie Belleau, Mindy Hall and Amy Whitney.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- The Mt. Greylock boys’ soccer team won the Mayfield Annual Booster Club Kickoff Classic. Members of the team are Tristan Petricca, Scott Beattie, Pat Flynn, Chris Fohlin, Mathi as Bartels, Max DeMatteo, Shezad Bruce, Zach Ogden, James Sneed, Joe Jacobsohn, Ben Crosky, Nathan Herr, Justin Noyes, Ben Jaffe, Chris Parkinson, Ian Rinehart, Todd Ennis, Chas Melanson, Colin Walsh and Justin Quinn.

ADAMS -- Raymond Martin, REMT-P of the Adams Ambulance Service, completed the Emergency Man agement Institute’s In tegrated Emergency Manage ment Course/Hazardous Mat erials: Preparedness and R esponse course in Emmitsburg, Md. on Aug. 30. The course focuses on preparing for and responding to a major hazardous materials incident.
