WILLIAMSTOWN -- Second Class Petty Officer Richard Cahalan of the USS Robert H. McCard has re turned to Boston after spending two weeks at his home on Bridges Road. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Cahalan. He enlisted in the Navy on Jan. 14, 1959 and two weeks ago enlisted for an additional six-year tour of duty. He is a signal man second class. NORTH ADAMS -- North ern Berkshire entries swept the field in the judging of Jersey cattle at the Barrington Fair in Great Barrington. Dr. and Mrs. J.J. Malnati of North Adams captured nine trophies while Fletcher’s Jersey Acres Farm in Cheshire took 13.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- James Briggs, son of Mr. and Mrs. James Briggs of Willi amstown, has attained dean’s list status, the second highest recognition for academic achieve ment, for the spring term at Middlebury College. Students who receive this designation must have earned B’s or better during the semester.
NORTH ADAMS -- Dr. Meiko Yamawaki, teacher of physics at North Adams State College, has returned to campus after spending the summer at Brookhaven National Laboratory in Upton, N.Y. She conducted research in high energy particle physics. Dr. Yamawaki joined North Adams State College in 1986.

ADAMS -- Four Northern Berkshire residents have been named to the dean’s list at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y. They are Nurin Jaffer of Adams, majoring in Interdepartmental biology; Glenna Malcolm of Adams, majoring in biology; Heather Carver of Williamstown, majoring in liberal arts; and Kevin Tynan of Williamstown, majoring in liberal arts.
