CHESHIRE -- A new kind of motorcycle racing -- sidecar racing -- was tried out Sunday by two members of the Hoosac Valley Motorcycle Club, which attended the national championship TT scrambles in Edge wood, Md. Making the trip were Ronald Ouimet, of 63 Alger St., and Bruce Bennet, of Glen Street, who managed to finish in first place. NORTH ADAMS -- Five area optometrists attended the initial meeting of the 1962-63 season of the Berkshire Coun ty Optometric Extension Pro gram study group in Pittsfield. They are Drs. Robert Browns word, John Flaherty, Charles Perron and Irving Tanzman, of North Adams, and Edmund Williams, of Adams.

NORTH ADAMS -- The life of a beauty pageant contestant isn’t all fun and games. Jennifer Rotolo will be the first to admit that, and she’s learned from experience that it takes more than a pretty face to be a winner -- it’s hard work. Miss Rotolo is a sophomore at Drury Senior High School, a cheerleader and was a contestant and winner in the Teen Northwestern Massachu setts American International Girl pageant, held Aug. 30 at the Williams Inn.

NORTH ADAMS -- A committee was formed to elect Daniel Connerton to the North Adams School Com mittee. Susanne Green was named chairwoman and Step hen Nelson, treasurer. Ann Trombley and Judy Blaisdell will be in charge of coffee hours and Judith Cummings,

POWNAL, Vt. -- Navy Petty Officer 2nd Class Anthony Dewey, son of Rena Morrison of Pownal, recently completed a six-month deployment to the Mediterranean Sea and Ara bian Gulf while assigned to the amphibious assault ship USS Wasp, based in Norfolk, Va. Dewey joined the Navy in June 1989.

CHESHIRE -- Andrew Johnson, son of Gary and Charlotte Johnson of Che shire, has enrolled at Colby College this fall. Before classes began, he took part in a week-long orientation that included an introduction to the rigorous academic program and the rich cultural life at Colby and a four-day orientation trip. Johnson is a graduate of Hoosac Valley High School.
