NORTH ADAMS -- An accident on Curran Highway on Wednesday evening sent two to the hospital, reduced traffic to one lane and may result in charges, according to Sgt. James Burdick of the North Adams Police Department.

The accident was caused when a southbound motorist -- Erica Hansen, 32, of South Street in Cheshire -- failed to stop at the traffic light at the former North Adams Plaza and rear-ended a second vehicle, driven by Linda Lavariere, 63, of East Hoosac Street in Adams.

Both drivers were transported to the hospital, and the vehicles -- Lavariere's Hyundai Santa Fe and Hansen's Chevy Prism -- were towed.

"[The accident] is currently under investigation and charges are pending," Burdick said. "[The injuries were] not serious that we know."

Traffic was delayed for roughly an hour as a result of the crash.
