50 years ago today

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Pat rolman Raymond Lemieux has been granted a provisional appointment to the Williams town Police Department effective this week. He joined the Police Department Sept. 3 on an emergency appointment. He was formerly employed at Thomason’s Package Store in the Colonial Shopping Center. CLARKSBURG -- Bonnie Bryce, 21, a blue-eyed redhead from Clarksburg, will be one of five girls vying for the Fall Foliage Festival queen crown Oct. 5. Miss Bryce, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Bryce of River Road, will sing "Moon River" in the talent portion of the contest.

25 years ago today

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Three members of the class of 1988, in area public, parochial and independent schools, have been selected to receive the Williams College Book Award. The local winners are Krista Hartman of Drury High School, Sheila Wellspeak of Hoosac Valley and Bradford Behr of Mt. Greylock Regional High School.

NORTH ADAMS -- Paul Fern of North Adams and Stanley O’Connor of Cheshire were appointed co-vice chairmen of Senior Corps of Re tired Executives (SCORE). Mr. Fern, a retired account man ager at Sprague Electric Co., has been a member of SCORE since 1983. Mr. O’Connor, former manager of F.W. Woolworth Co. in Adams, joined SCORE in 1986.

is among six others to receive the 2002 Bishop Circle of Stewards Award from the Foundation of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Spring field. The recipients’ names will be enshrined in a new garden at the St. Michael’s Cath edral on Oct. 20.

READSBORO, Vt. -- Kris ty Birch, daughter of Daniel and Joanne Birch of Reads boro, has been named to the dean’s list at Franklin Pierce College in Rindge, N.H., for the spring semester. She also was accepted into the national academic honor society, Alpha Chi, during the 2001-02 school year.
