POWNAL, Vt. -- Pvt. Nich olas Kokoras, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Kokoras of Pow nal, left this week by ship for France where he expects to be stationed for the next two years with the Corps of Army E ngineers. Pvt. Kokoras, who was inducted into the Army in April of this year, received his basic training at Fort Gordon, Ga. ADAMS -- Frederick Meich ner, son of Mr. and Mrs. Frederick Meichner of 11 Rich mond St., has been promoted from private first class to specialist 4th class in the U.S. Army First Battle Group, 18th Infantry. Cpl. Meichner has been in the Army since March, 1961, and is expected back from Mannheim, Germany for discharge early next March.

NORTH ADAMS -- Mich elle Sweeney of North Adams was crowned Miss Northern Berkshire of 1987 at the Fall Foliage Scholarship Pageant. The semi-finalists were Sim one Bachand, Angela Shart rand, Kristi Mastroianni and Allison Gleeson. Other contestants were Tracie Bailey, Rebecca Bushee, Beth Ga zaille, Kimberly Kupiec, Kellie Molleur, Jennifer Rotolo and Lynn Thomas.

NORTH ADAMS -- Boy Scout Troop 88 of the First Congregational Church re cent ly held its first Court of Honor for 1987-88. Todd Catelotti and Steven Roberts were elevated to the rank of 1st class, Peter Belmonte as senior patrol leader and Shaun O'Connell as a member of the Leadership Corps.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Waubeeka Golf Links' Ed Budz shot a 4-over-par 75 in the second and final round of the state Mid-Amateur Wed nes day to finish in a six-way tie for 16th place overall. Budz shot rounds of 77-75 at Wal pole Country Club for a total of 152.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Fred rica Sloan of Williamstown, director of social services at Sweet Brook Care Centers is the 2002 Massachusetts Alz heimer's Association Chapter Honoree of the Year. She re ceiv ed the award at the annual meeting of the chapter at the Col lege of Holy Cross in Wor cester.
