WILLIAMSTOWN -- James Morton, 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Morton of 69 East Main St., began his boot training in the Navy. He was sent to Albany, N.Y., and from there to the Great Lakes, Ill., Naval Training Station to begin recruit training. He enlisted under the Navy's minority-plan, which provides that youths under 21 who enlist will be discharged the day before their 21st birthday. POWNAL, Vt. -- Pvt. Gary Walk, son of Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Walk of Church St., received the physical education award trophy for his company as he completed basic training at Fort Dix, N.J. Young Walk, who enlisted in the Army in July, was assigned to the New Jersey post for basic training.

NORTH ADAMS -- Kelly Randall, daughter of Barbara Randall of 204 Mohawk Forest, has been selected as a candidate to represent the region in the final competition of the Am erican International Page ant in the Poconos. Miss Ran dall, 14, is a member of the freshman class at Drury Senior High School. She plans to attend college to earn a degree in teaching handicapped children.
NORTH ADAMS -- Jeff Bleau had a productive all-around day Saturday in Drury's 22-0 win over Brattle boro in football. He ran for 160 yards, scored a touchdown and passed for a two-point conversion. He was named Blue Devil offensive player of the week. Linebackers Ray King and Bill Bryce shared the

NORTH ADAMS -- This year's annual YMCA meeting was a breakfast buffet at Steeples Restaurant. Executive director Randy Kinnas presented Lauri Vanuni, child care director, with the outstanding staff member award for her success in expanding the program during the past year. Officers elected for the coming year are Joanne De Rose, president; Mike Ameen, vice president; Steve Iacuessa, treasurer; and Peg Mekdeci, secretary.
NORTH ADAMS -- The Berkshire Chamber of Com merce is seeking nominations for the 2002 Francis H. Hay den Memorial Award. The award will be made to a Northern Berkshire County resident who has made a significant contribution to the economic, social and/or cultural improvement of the communities of Adams, Cheshire, Clarks burg, Florida, New Ashford, North Adams, Savoy and Williamstown.
