READSBORO -- David Eldred of the U.S. Coast Guard, son of Mr. and Mrs. Fay Eldred, left Sept. 19 from Boston for duty aboard the Eastwind, a weather ship which will be stationed at the South Pole for the next eight months. Eldred enlisted in the Coast Guard three years ago.
STAMFORD, Vt. -- David Whitney, son of Mr. and Mrs. McKendree Whitney Jr., left Sunday from Albany, N.Y. for Seattle, Wash., where he boarded a Navy plane for Kodiak Island, Alaska. He enlisted in the Navy on Oct. 9, 1961 and received his boot training at Great Lakes, Ill.

CHESHIRE -- Ed Harrington earned seven letters to lead the weekly list of Hurricane letter winner on the Hoosac Valley football team for the 42-6 win over Pittsfield. Craig Marszalek received six letters, John Davine had five, and Joe Eurbin, Scott Alibozek, Aaron Martel and Aaron Gazaille earned four letters each.
WILLIAMSTOWN -- Jamie Bolotin grabbed the top offensive player honors and Rob Nugent was named the top defensive player on the weekly Mt. Greylock football Honor Roll after the Mounties’ 25-0 win over Putnam last week. Bolotin was top carrier and yardage gainer with 21 carries for 109 yards. Nugent picked up the top defensive player honor for intercepting a pass, blocking a pass and recovering a fumble.

NORTH ADAMS -- In the Flaming Leaves Tournament at North Adams Country Club, Jack and Craig Rivard defeated John Segala and Roger Boucher in the championship division. In the first division, Tom Downey and Chuck Lewitt defeated Craig Rougeau and Chuck Ozolins.
