50 years ago today

NORTH ADAMS -- Army Spec. 5 Raymond LeMoine Jr., son of Mrs. Harold McGinnis of 22 D St., is back at his home base in Erlangen, Germany, after taking part with other troops of the 4th Armored Division in eight weeks of intensive field training at the 7th Army Training Area in Grafenwohr, Germany. Lemoine is a tank driver in Co. A of the 4th Armored Division. He enlisted in the Army Oct. 1, 1958. NORTH ADAMS -- Cecil Harvey has joined the sales engineering staff of the Sprague Electric Co., it was announced by Neal Welch, senior vice president of marketing and sales. Mr. Harvey will serve as an assistant to Gerard Tremblay, coordinator for computer component sales. He comes to Sprague Electric from the Elliott Co. of Ridgway, Pa., where he was manager of application engineering.

25 years ago today

NORTH ADAMS -- Drury Senior High School students Amy Babcock, Daniel Coyne, Sherrill Ingalls and Thomas Janulewicz have been designated Commended Students in the 1988 National Merit Scholarship Program. The students will receive a Letter of Commendation in recognition of outstanding academic promise.

NORTH ADAMS -- Margaret Williams of North Adams has been hired part-time by the Berkshire office of the Department of Mental Retardation as a client service coordinator. She will work at the Northern Berkshire Support Services office at 57 Main St. Coordinators chair

10 years ago today

NORTH ADAMS -- A city native has returned to the area to follow in his family’s footsteps by opening his own business. Pending Planning Board approval next month, Ryan Auge of North Adams, will open The Saddleback Trading Post, which will feature outdoors products and services. The store will be located at 73 Main St.

NORTH ADAMS -- Lance Corp. David Letalien, son of Jeffrey and Lyon Letalien of 18 Tremont St., has received a promotion to corporal on Oct. 1. He is stationed at Camp Lejeune, N.C. He entered the Marine Corps in November of 2000.
