50 years ago today

CHESHIRE -- A 19-year-old Cheshire boy who enlisted in the Air Force 14 months ago has been promoted to airman sec ond class in France. He is Thomas Parkington, son of Mrs. Manfred Biagini of Richmond Street. Airman Parkington en listed for four years on Aug. 23, 1961, had six weeks of basic training at Lackland Air Force Base in Texas, then advanced training in jet aircraft maintenance at Amarillo Air Force Base in Texas. CHESHIRE -- A.1.C. Ralph Biagini, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Biagini of Main Street, is home on a 17-day leave after completing a course in senior life saving and life guard techniques at Lackland Air Force Base in San Anto nio, Texas. After his leave, he will report to Westover Base in Chi c opee for Air Police Training.

NORTH ADAMS -- The Drury junior varsity football team ran its record to 4-0 with a 32-0 win over the McCann JVs. Leo LaBonte had touchdown runs of 49 and 29 yards, scored a two-point conversion and ran for 149 yards for the day. John Vallieres, Derek Masse and Pete Sprague also scored touchdowns.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Fall championships for 1987 have been decided at Taconic Golf Club. Kim Chapman won the men’s scratch division, and Bruce Boisvert was runnerup. Frank Lentine and Joe Andrews were the semifinalists. Norma Freedman captured the women’s handicap division, ahead of Gerry Baker.

NORTH ADAMS -- In the Monday Night Adult Hockey League, Cariddi Auto downed Gringo’s, 8-3. Darin Lane scored seven goals. Tom Phillips added Cariddi’s other goal. Dishing out assists were Ed Budz and Tony Raimer with two each and Andy Budz and Tom Bailey, each with one. Gringo’s three goals came from Justin Spagnoli, Brian Hoag and Mark Breault. Spagnoli and Hoag each had an assist.

NORTH ADAMS -- In North Adams junior football action, the North Adams Cowboys lost to CYC Green. Billy Bostwick scored the lone touchdown for the Cowboys. Jake Cantoni added a two-point conversion. Jon Erdeski and Leon Thomas played well. On defense, Dillon Flynn and Bostwick each had eight tackles to lead the Cowboys. Mike Scott recorded six tackles.
