NORTH ADAMS -- Terrence Coyne, 23, son of Police Chief William Coyne and Mrs. Coyne of 47 Franklin St., is nearing the end of eight weeks of basic training with P company of the 2nd Training Regiment at Fort Dix, N.J. He will serve six months active duty and then will be transferred to duty with the 319th Reserve Engineering Battalion. NORTH ADAMS -- Seven North Adams Boy Scouts will receive Ad Altare Dei awards on Sunday at St. Michael’s Cathedral in Springfield. Those receiving the distinction are Mark Taylor, Gary Lesniak, and Daniel Toniatti, members of St. Francis Troop 36, and John Moresi, Albert Mancuso, Edwin Dassatti and Edward Shartrand of St. Anthony Troop 34.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Army Sgt. 1st Class Charles Roberts has participated in the NATO-sponsored exercise, Return of Forces to Germany ‘87. The sergeant, son of Norman and Clis ta Roberts of 43 Pines Lodge Park, is a telecommunications center operator with the 57th Signal Battalion at Fort Hood, Texas.

NORTH ADAMS -- The North Adams Pee Wee football team, behind the offensive effort of Sean McGrath, won its third game of the season, beating Southern Berkshire 22-0. McGrath ran for touchdowns of 60 and seven yards and threw to Stan Shoestock for a 47-yard score to lead the Cowboys to victory.

& Francine Clark Art Institute has appointed Breta Yvars of North Adam s to the new post of assistant curator of education. Yvars will assist in the operation and development of the Institute’s growing education program.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Da vid Buell, 39, of Williamstown, has been promoted to the rank sergeant in the Massachusetts State Police. He was promoted in a ceremony held Oct. 22 at the State Police General Head quarters in Framingham. Buell is a 15-year veteran of the de partment.
