50 years ago today

NORTH ADAMS -- Marine Pvt. Harvey DeGrenier, son of Mrs. Angelina Perreault of 55 Beacon St., is serving with the 1st Battalion, 2nd Marine Regiment now taking part in amphibious training exercises in the Mediterranean. De Grenier’s regiment is em barked in the ships of Amphibious Squadron 4. The units, which left Camp Le jeune, N.C. in September, are expected to return to the United States in February, 1963. ADAMS -- Michael Pliska, son of Mr. and Mrs. Walter Pliska of 38 Randall St., has been named a midshipman in the second squad of Company A’s first platoon of the Navy ROTC unit at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y. A sophomore at RPI, he spent seven weeks at sea aboard the Navy’s aircraft carrier USS Intrepid as part of the ROTC course designed to prepare members for commission as Naval Reserve officers on graduation from college.

25 years ago today

WILLIAMSTOWN -- A pre-Halloween captain and crew tournament was held at Waubeeka Golf Links. The winning team, with 2-under par, was Larry St. Cyr, Nancy Rodovick, Howard Cleave and Dave Rickert. Tied for second with 73 were Ernie Lindsey, Bobbie Cleave, Pete Jeffers and Blanche Landry, and Walt Gerawaski, Shirley Barry, Chuck Soule and Sally Taft.

NORTH ADAMS -- John Rivers ran for two touchdowns to help the Drury junior varsity football team get past the Hoosac Valley JVs 22-0.

Rivers had 15 carries for 96 yards and scored on runs of two yards and 33 yards. The other score came on a 16-yard pass from Pete Lefebvre to Jim Robare. Leo Labonte ran for a pair of two-point conversions

ADAMS -- The Adams Jets defeated Dalton White, 28-0 on Sunday. Casey Koperniak led the way for Adams with 106 yards on six carries. He scored four TDs. Doug Rosenthal added a pair of conversions. On defense, Stan Meczywor led with nine tackles and
Austin Alibozek and Kyle Wilson chipped in with seven tackles each.

NORTH ADAMS -- In Monday Night MCLA Adult Hockey League action, Cariddi Auto edged Key West 6-5. In the win, Tony Raimer recorded three goals and an assist, while Andy Budz picked up two goals and two assists. Darin Lane scored the other goal. For Key West, Adam Emerson scored twice and Dan Mc Whinnie, Mike Bloom and Paul Dutton each had one goal.
