ADAMS -- Fred Koczela of 3 Richmond St. announced his candidacy for nomination for a three-year term as selectman. Mr. Koczela is making his entry in the political scene for the first time. A similar announcement was made by Richard Young of 16 Myrtle St. NORTH ADAMS -- Hospital Apprentice Hope Pratt, daughter of Mrs. Donald Thompson of 139 Franklin St., is home on 14 days’ leave after completing her basic training at the Women’s Recruit Training School at Bainbridge (Md.) Naval Training Center. She will report Jan. 20 at the Hospital Corpsman School at the Great Lakes Naval Training Center.

NORTH ADAMS -- Edward Briggs has been named chairman of the search committee to seek a replacement for North Adams Regional Hospital President Bernard Shapiro. Shapiro resigned recently to accept a position of chief executive officer at Albany Memorial Hospital in New York.

NORTH ADAMS -- Thirteen skaters advanced to the regional competition from the Department of Environmental Management’s local competition in figure skating basic skills held at the Vietnam Vets rink. Those who qualified are Willa Simon, Calla Goldberg, Christian Gale, Mary Parkman, Hilary Hardman, Brianna Kassin, Julie Areglado, Mercedes St. Hilaire, Shayla Schnieder, Jessica Robinson, Jerusha Gale, Brooke Hardman and Demetria Cavallari.

NORTH ADAMS -- In the North Adams Girls YMCA Basketball League, Ladies Auxiliary beat Greylock Community Club 18-6. Tiffany Gundler and Samantha Cantoni had four points each for the Ladies. Sara Simonetti led Greylock with four points.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- The Mount Greylock hockey team fought to a 2-2 tie with Taconic Saturday night at the Pittsfield Boys’ and Girls’ Club. Jared Hammill and Ross Thurston each had a goal. Hammill and Dan Hogan had assists for Greylock. Eighth-grader Zach Harding made 33 saves in net.
