ADAMS -- Six officials of the Fire District have taken out nomination papers as candidates for re-election to their posts, one on the Prudential Committee and the other five as engineers. Henry Grosz of 126 North St., present chairman of the Prudential Committee, is asking return for another three-year term. Seeking re-election as engineer are Arthur Hathaway, Herbert Gross, Francis DeBlois, Albert Urbanski and Clarence Bugbee Jr. WILLIAMSTOWN -- The appointment of Harry Smith of 17 Cole Ave. as Williamstown assessor, was announced by Town Manager J. Maynard Austin. He will succeed Assessor Stuart Graham, who submitted his resignation, effective tomorrow. Mr. Smith operated the Harry Smith Inc. Ford Agency in North Adams for 15 years. In 1961, he sold the business and worked for the Sprague Electric Co. until last fall.

NORTH ADAMS -- Colin O’Neil scored 64 points in three games as the Northern Berkshire YMCA basketball All-Star team won the 4th Annual Dalton Youth Center Basketball Tournament at the Nessacus Middle School. O’Neil was voted MVP of the tournament for his performance. Other top players for NB were Chipper Manuel, Karen Rice, Sean McGrath and Jeff Trudeau.

NORTH ADAMS -- Christopher Lentine, son of Anita Lentine of North Adams, recently was voted by his co-workers as the winner of the 2002 Humphrey Stokes Meri-torious Service Award at ESPN SportsTicker. The award is named in honor of a former ESPN SportsTicker employee who died in 1994. It is awarded annually to recognize outstanding service of an employee during the past year.
NORTH ADAMS -- Scott McNeil of 243 Church St. has been awarded the Ben Light Memorial Scholarship from Ithaca College in Ithaca, N.Y. He is a graduate student majoring in occupational therapy with a minor in gerontology. This scholarship is awarded to one or two students nominated by his or her department for outstanding contributions to the college community.
