WILLIAMSTOWN -- Officials say high winds caused a branch to fall on power lines south of 1200 Hancock Road on Thursday afternoon, bringing down several wires and leaving 168 customers in Hancock without power.

Williamstown Fire and Police responded to the scene shortly after 1 p.m., where the branch was smoldering on the wires, and the road remained open. No one was injured by the downed wires, and power was restored before 5 p.m.

Charlotte McCormack, a spokesperson with National Grid, said there were widespread outages Thursday throughout the state due to high winds.
