ADAMS - Two appointments to the staff of W.B. Plunkett Memorial Hospital to succeed Mr. and Mrs. John Gimalowski of 33 Alger St., who retired last Thursday, were announced by Woodrow Cummings, administrator. Marion Little, R.N., of 14 Linden St., has been named head nurse to succeed Mrs. Gimalowski. Named as maintenance supervisor to replace Mr. Gimalowski is Clarence Bugbee Jr. of 1 West Road.

POWNAL - Andrew Crosier of South Stream Road won first place at the Vermont Farm Show on Tuesday for his entry of maple syrup. Mr. Crosier, one of Southern Vermont's larger maple syrup producers, has been a consistent honor exhibitor at the Farm Show. First prize was a $25 cash award and a sterling silver pitcher and tray.

25 years ago today

NORTH ADAMS - John Barbuto and Rob Stack combined for 11 goals and 14 assists in helping the Williamstown Savings Canadiens to a 13-8 win over the Patten Corp. Kings in the Northern Berkshire Youth Hockey league. Barbuto slammed in eight goals and added five assists. Stack support the effort with three goals and nine assists. Jason Lesure and Rick Simpson each scored once. Matt Trottier and Kevin Lesure each scored twice for the Kings and Brock Whalen, Mike Hein, Jason Civello and Chad Anderson each scored once.

NORTH ADAMS - Mc-Cann Technical High School senior Jeffrey Calvi, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruce Calvi of Clarksburg, was the winner of the Mass. Lions District 33-Y Speech

Contest finals held at the Quality Inn in Chicopee. He represented the Adams and Cheshire Lions and was awarded the first prize of $1,000.

NORTH ADAMS - Jason Rivera, a senior at Drury High School, has advanced to the semifinals of the annual Golden Gloves Boxing Tournament held at the Holyoke Boys' and Girls' Club. The 18-year-old trains at the North Adams YMCA. His head trainer is John Velyvis and assistant trainer is Jim Parisien.

LANESBOROUGH - Jessica Atcheson, daughter of Karen Fairs of South Main Street and Peter Atcheson of Marstons Mills, has been named to the college's Alexander Hamilton's List for the fall term at Hamilton College in Clinton, N.Y. Atcheson, a senior English literature and sociology major, is a graduate of Mount Greylock Regional High School, Williamstown.
