50 years ago today

NORTH ADAMS -- A board of review of second class scouts was held last evening at a meeting of Boy Scout Troop 88 at First Congregational Church. Those who passed the board of review are Jeffrey Tatro, Robert Chilson and Gary Braillier. A one-year service pin was presented to Ernest LaCasse. NORTH ADAMS -- Police Sgt. Kenneth Gamache of the North Adams Police Department and a candidate for the Williamstown Police Chief, is enrolled in two police courses given by Northeastern University. The courses are in criminal law and dealing with the investigation of automobile accidents.

25 years ago today

CHESHIRE -- Marine 1st Lt. Marc Jasper, son of Lynn Bialas of Cheshire, recently departed in a six-month deployment to the Western Pacific and Indian Ocean aboard the aircraft carrier USS Enterprise, homeported in Alameda, CA. While deployed, Jasper will participate in military exercises designed to test individual skills and the readiness of the USS Enterprise. Jasper joined the Marine Corps in May, 1984.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Joan Edwards, associate professor of biology at Williams College, has been appointed acting dean of the college for the 1988-89 academic year, effective July 1. She will temporarily replace Stephen Fix, associate professor of English, who will resume the position on July 1, 1989, following a sabbatical leave. Edwards came to Williams in

NORTH ADAMS -- Students from McCann Technical School swept gold, silver and bronze medals for two categories at the Skills USA-VICA West District Competitions last month. Gold medal winners are Matt Mikuszewski, Jodie Luczynski, Lisa Williams, Mike Choquette, Robert Latson, Aaron Singer and Erik Shields.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Officer Tania Hernandez of the Williamstown Police Department, held a DARE graduation Feb. 19 for the fifth-grade class at Pine Cobble School.

The students who graduated were Isabel Filkins, Malina Filkins, Emma Provenzano and Gia Recco. Isabel Filkins was the winner of this year’s essay contest.
