Kathryn Gaska emailed us to report the students in this photo were, from left, Sarah Hartman-Perry, Kathryn Parkinson, Andrew Wieneke and Brent Filson.
Rosemarie Hartman-Perry emailed us also, saying, 'February 1 was a bittersweet day for my daughter, Sarah Hartman- Perry. The hand-carved sign was done by my father when Sarah was in the 4th grade at Pine Cobble. He came to the school and showed her class how to carve and use gold leaf for the lettering. This sign replaced the old sign and then was stolen and found in a dorm room at MCLA. In the meantime, a new sign was made for the school. This photo was taken on the day Sarah's grandfather passed away at Albany Medical Center. In fact, Sarah and I left his bedside to come to Williamstown for this photo. While we were here having this photo taken, he had died ... As you can see, the importance of this photo holds a very special place in my heart and my daughter's for father and beloved grandfather, Russell C. Hartman.'
The photo originally ran Jan. 2, 1996.
