50 years ago today

WILLIAMSTOWN - Wesley Czerwinski of Glen Street has been appointed clerk in the Police Department.

He assumed his new duties yesterday and succeeds Lillian Bush who resigned to accept other employment. Mr. Czerwinski was formerly employed by the Yankee Atomic Electric Co. in Rowe.

NORTH ADAMS - Marine Corps Pfc. James Miller, son of Mr. and Mrs. Raymond Miller of 114 Corinth St., has started a nine-week course in jet aircraft handling, fire-fighting, maintenance and survival practices at the Naval Air Technical Training Center in Memphis, Tenn. He enlisted last May and had his basic training at Parris Island, S.C.

NORTH ADAMS - The Sons of Italy North Stars nipped the North Adams Elks Red Wings 3-2 in the Adams Division of the Northern Berkshire Youth Hockey house league.

Nathan Phillips scored twice for the North Stars, and Gary Malloy added a goal. Jeremy Wirtes and Brian Gillis had assists. Danny Esposito and Matt Thaisz each had a goal for the Red Wings.

NORTH ADAMS - Student musicians from the North Adams Middle School have been selected to participate in the Western District Junior High School Music Festival in West Springfield.

The students are Son Hui Clark and Tonya Temp, both altos in chorus; Chris O'Connell, trumpet, and John Pappas, percussion, both in concert band; and Billie Jo Goddard, flute in orchestra.

Maria Thompson of Adams and William Reddy of Cheshire have been named to the dean's list at Framingham State College. To be selected to the dean's list, a student must earn a quality point average of 3.25 or higher. Thompson, a freshman, is an undeclared major. Reddy, a freshman, is majoring in politics.

WILLIAMSTOWN - Ronald Kelly, son of Robin and Debra Hart of Williamstown, and Timothy Larson, son of Steve and Kathy Larson of Lanesborough, have been named to the dean's list at Susquehanna University in Selinsgrove, Pa., for the fall semester. To qualify for the dean's list, students must achieve a minimum 3.4 grade point average out of a possible 4.0.
