NORTH ADAMS -- Donald Pelletier of 307 East Main St., son of Dr. and Mrs. Hector Pelletier, has received honorable mention in the competition for National Science Foundation fellowships for advanced graduate study in the sciences. He is now taking his first year of graduate study in mathematics at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology on a Woodrow Wilson Fellowship. NORTH ADAMS -- A North Adams Marine is back at his home station after taking part in an eight-day amphibious exercise off the coast of Southern California. He is Lance Cpl. Frederick Simon, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Simon of 4 Magnolia Ter. and a member of the 3rd Marine Air Wing stationed at El Toro Marine Air Station in Santa Ana, Calif. He enlisted Jan. 24, 1960 and had his basic training at Parris Island, S.C.

NORTH ADAMS -- The second meeting of the newly formed Harriman-West Pilots’ Association was held March 20. Officers are Jeff Hughes, president; Peter Trabold, vice president; Louis Babeau, secretary; and Albert Barbuto, treasurer. The basic philosophy of this group addresses the problems confronting non-professional pilots.

CHESHIRE -- Amy Shepard, daughter of Cindy Shepard of East Walnut Street and Gary Shepard of Springfield, has been selected as the Hoosac Valley High School/ Adams Unit 160 American Legion Auxiliary Massachusetts Girls State representative. She is a member of the Class of 2004 at Hoosac.
WILLIAMSTOWN -- Williams College announced that Markes Johnson, the Charles L. MacMillan Professor of Geology at Williams College, has been awarded a Faculty World Fellowship. The fellowship will help support Johnson’s research on "Island Ecology through Geologic Time." He has been a professor at Williams since 1977.
