NORTH ADAMS -- Awards were presented to four members of Boy Scout Troop 88 of the First Congregational Church at the end of the weekly meeting. Scoutmaster Douglas Shepley presented tenderfoot pins to Edward Feder and Thomas Marsh. Jeffrey Tatro received his second class pin and James Naughton was awarded the athletic merit badge. MONROE -- Cheryl Comai, 13, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Eligio Comai of Monroe Bridge, has received a letter from American Legion Auxiliary headquarters, Department of Vermont, that her poppy poster had won second prize in the 1962 State Poppy Poster competition for 8th graders. She attends Monroe Bridge School.

ADAMS -- Selectmen Wednesday unanimously voted to name the town’s community development director as interim town administrator. Henry Hill, Adams town administrator, will conclude his tenure with the town on Friday and James Leitch will replace him temporarily as selectmen conduct a search. Hill has been named assistant city manager in Melbourne, Fla.
WILLIAMSTOWN -- John Maher, son of Paul and Patricia Maher of Buxton Hill Road, a Class of 1989 English major at Union College in Schenectady, N.Y., is studying in Austria this spring under Union’s Term Abroad Program. Students spend a 10-week college term in a foreign country and receive full credit at Union for their work.
WILLIAMSTOWN -- Karen Shepard, part-time lecturer in English at Williams College, has been awarded the Doris Roberts-William Goyen Fellowship in Fiction by the Christopher Isherwood Foundation. This grant will allow Shepard to devote time to writing projects and other miscellaneous research. She teaches fiction, personal essay writing, contemporary fiction, and autobiography.
NORTH ADAMS -- Marine Corps Private First Class Christopher Stanley, 19, son of Henry Stanley of East Quincy St., was deployed overseas on Feb. 14. He completed basic training at Parris Island, S.C. in May 2002. After completing basic he completed Marine combat training at the School of Infantry at Camp Lejeune, N.C.
