WILLIAMSTOWN -- David Sefcik was awarded a trophy for first prize in a model car building contest sponsored by Leo’s Variety and Bicycle Shop on Cole Avenue. The champion medal was won by Linda Chesbro. Paul St. Pierre won the first runner-up medal and Michael Estes and Michael Black tied for third runner-up, NORTH ADAMS -- Dennis Pedrin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Julio Pedrin of 1341 South State St., will leave tomorrow to enter St. Stephen Monastery in Croghan, N.Y., where he will be trained in the work of a lay brother of the Franciscan Order. The young man will remain there 2 1/2 years learning the various religious tasks.

NORTH ADAMS -- In YMCA Men’s Basketball league action, Pepsi beat Ashley Swift 62-59. Mike Matney led Pepsi with 18 points, followed by Larry Morrissey and Pete Unis with 12 points each. For Ashley Swift, Jay Meehan scored 16 and Jack Racette had 15.
NORTH ADAMS -- College Citations for Meritorious Service (CCMS) are being recommended for two members of the faculty at North Adams State College. Mr. Maurine Horsman of the Department of English/Communications and Dr. Michael Sabel of the Department of Chemistry were recommended. The citations recognize faculty members from across the system for their work with students.

NORTH ADAMS -- Pitchers Mound was the 2002-03 North Adams Youth Basketball League Division 3 Champions. Members of the team were Anthony Maselli, Matt Baumbach, Drew Boudreau, Bobby Wheeler, Shawn Lavalley, Johno Hinkell, Charles Toomajian, Tim Jolin and Matt Lefebvre.
NORTH ADAMS -- In Grade 7-8 North Adams Girls Basketball action, YMCA/Elks All-Stars defeated East Greenbush, 47-43. Lindsay Lincoln led the Elks with 10 point, followed by Meagan Bullett with nine. Jenna Gazaille, Angela Saltamartini and Heather Malloy had five points each. Danielle Thomas and Jordan DeGrenier hauled down eight rebounds apiece.
