NORTH ADAMS -- Pvt. Donald Rancatti, 23, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Rancatti of 351 State St., is home on two weeks leave after completing U.S. Army basic training at Fort Dix, N.J. He qualified as an expert on the fort’s rifle range and will be stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas for training in the missile field. ADAMS -- A re-enlistment and a new enlistment have been reported by Co. A, 2nd Battalion, 110th Armor, the local National Guard unit. Sgt. Robert Urquhart of 8 Pleasant St. returned to the National Guard as first sergeant after being out of the guard for two years. The new enlistee, Richard Daunais, son of Mr. and Mrs. Francis Daunais o f 2 Overlook Ter., went to Fort Dix, N.J. to begin six months of active Army training.

NORTH ADAMS -- This year’s Good Citizens recipients attended the Fort Masschusetts Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution award ceremonies on April 7 at Howard Johnson’s. The recipients are Tara Mahar of Drury Senior High School, Amy Fox of Mt. Greylock Regional High School, Maribeth Koczela of Hoosac Valley High School, and Thomas Therrien of Charles H. McCann Technical High School.
HANCOCK -- The only position being contested in Hancock’s May election is that of selectman. Incumbent Eleanor Patterson is running against Donald Bowman in the race for three-year position on the board of selectmen. No one is running for the posts of auditor, assessor or tree warden.

NORTH ADAMS -- Two faculty members from Drury High School have been selected to present at the 14th annual National Service-Learning Conference in Minneapolis, Minn. They are Anne French, school adjustment counselor and service-learning program director, and Deborah Coyne, service-learning coordinator. Service-Learning is a method of teaching where students apply classroom curriculum in addressing community needs.
ADAMS -- The Ladies Auxiliary to the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1995 held its election on April 12. Theresa Marby, president, was re-elected for another term. Other officers include Mary Michalenko, senior vice president; Francis Pelletier, junior vice president; Freida Zepka, secretary; Florence Grover, treasurer; Laurin Zepka, chaplain; Veronica Burnette, conductress; and Esther Dobowolski, guard.
