NORTH ADAMS -- Four young Northern Berkshire men left this morning for Fort Dix, N.J., and two years of Army life. The quartet fills the North Adams area Draft Board’s quota for September. The draftees are Adam Creps of Williamstown, Raymond Piantoni of North Adams, Edmond Lafave of Williamstown and Bernard Belding Jr. of Clarksburg. NORTH ADAMS -- Six area young women are among 28 members of the senior class of St. Luke’s Hospital School of Nursing in Pittsfield who will be graduated Sunday. The Northern Berkshire women are Ann Marie Richard and Alice Rivers of North Adams, Virginia Bednarz and Margaret Kustra of Adams, Frederika Grady of Williamstown, and Catherine Gwozdz of Cheshire.

NORTH ADAMS -- Six dogs and their handlers received diplomas from the Northern Berkshire Dog Training Club, Inc. Those who completed the nine week beginners course are Laurie Tooper with Kasey, Mark Belanger with Samantha, Melissa Birkland with Barnaby, Christine Racette with Otis, Sandy DeGraff with Raz and Susan Galli with Corky.
NORTH ADAMS -- The Transcript has announced the retirement of its wire editor. Ronald Mills of 483 North Eagle St., Clarksburg, retired Friday. He joined The Transcript in 1962 as Williamstown reporter and was named news editor in 1969. For the past several years he has served as wire editor, and more recently, as editorial page editor. He previously worked on newspapers in Canada and California.

ADAMS -- From the Postal Service to building homes to managing communities, William Sheridan brings a wealth of varied experiences of skills to his new job as town administrator. Sheridan, 56, moved into town Aug. 31 and began work on Sept. 2. He has signed a contract for three years.
NORTH ADAMS -- Winfield Brown will join Northern Berkshire Health Systems as its vice president of development and marketing on Sept. 29. He comes to Health Systems from Sisters of Charity Health System in Lewiston, Maine, where he was a vice president and executive director of the Sisters of Charity Foundation. He will be responsible for creating professional marketing programs for the company and its subsidiaries.
