NORTH ADAMS -- Pvt. James Blair Jr., 17, son of Mr. and Mrs. Blair of 17 Adams St., is undergoing basic Army training at Fort Dix, N.J. He reported to Fort Dix on Aug. 6 to begin two years of service, and has been assigned there to Co. C, 2nd Training Regiment at the U.S. Army Training Center. He will have eight weeks of basic training, then after two weeks’ leave, will be enrolled in a specialist school or assigned for advanced infantry training.
POWNAL, Vt. -- Carl Fowler, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Fowler of Skiparee Farms, won three ribbons last week at the New York State Fair in Syracuse for farm mechanical devices he planned and built in his workshop. Exhibiting in the Future Farmers of America booth, he won a blue ribbon for a pair of auto jacks, a red ribbon for a draw bar pin and a white ribbon for a metal press.

MONROE BRIDGE -- Patricia Angeli, daughter of Antoinette and Jean Angeli of 1 River Road, Monroe Bridge, has been promoted in the U.S. Air Force to the rank of captain. She is a staff nurse in West Germany with the Hahn Air Base Hospital. Angeli is a 1975 graduate of Drury High School, North Adams, and a1984 graduate of Our Lady of the Elms College in Chicopee.
WILLIAMSTOWN -- The East Mountain Sportsmen’s Club Sunday held its second of four turkey shoots scheduled for this month at the club’s shooting range on Henderson Road. The winners were Bruce Pemer, James Sweet, David St. John, John Longton, Charles Stokes Jr., Lou Furlon, Len Bruno, Daniel Pratt, Raymond Jimmo, Michael St. Pierre, Michael Wilder, John Dennelli, Steven Tatro, James Laughlin, George Belanger Jr., Paul Garofano and Shane Furlon.

ADAMS -- Alluring Designs has moved from 44 Spring St. to 21A Park St., the former Woolworth building, and has expanded from a salon to a full day spa. Owner Jayson Lescarbeau said he and manager Daniel Geer invested about $20,000 into the space. They will now offer new services such as facials, chemical peels and exfoliants, full body waxing, massage, manicures and pedicures.
NORTH ADAMS -- Andrea Hazelton, B.S.N., M.S., R.N., of Lanesborough, has been named director of emergency nursing at North Adams Regional Hospital. She is responsible for the day-to-day operations of the NARH Emergency Department. She succeeds Billi Allard who recently became vice president of patient care services at NARH.
