ADAMS -- Airman Theodore Meczywor, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Meczywor of 5 Turners Ave., is being reassigned to Plattsburgh AFB, N.Y., for training and duty as a cook. He recently completed United States Air Force basic military training at Lackland AFB in Texas. Airman Meczywor attended C.T. Plunkett Junior High School.
ADAMS -- An Adams man who has been in the Navy eight years has been promoted to chief electrician’s mate. He is Robert Kolodziej, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Kolodziej of 4 Leh’s Lane. He is presently serving aboard the guided missile submarine USS Halibut, a Pacific Fleet unit operating out of Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. Chief Kolodziej enlisted Sept. 19, 1955 and had his basic training at the Bainbridge (Md.) Naval Training Station.

CLARKSBURG -- Steve Kawa shot rounds of 73, 74 and 76 for a 273 total to win the men’s club championship at North Adams Country Club. John Meaney carded 80, 75 and 79 for a 234 for the runnerup spot. Chad Walker was the net winner with 108. Judy Lepel took the women’s championship with a two-round total of 183, edging Helen Kawa by a stroke. The net winner was Sid Taft with 140.
CLARKSBURG -- Michael and Margaret Koperniak with a 77 were the gross winners of the North Adams Country Club Mixed Scotch Tournament. Steven and Helen Kawa were second with 78 and Bernard and Marilyn Birkland were third with 85. In the Net division, Larry St. Cyr and Blanche Landry had 56, followed by Edward Pilot and Madelon Ottman with 57.

NORTH ADAMS -- Thirty-two members were present at the North Adams Country Club on Sept. 15 for Le Cercle Francais’ first meeting of the 2003-04 year. Installation of officers was held and the new officers are Mona Turgeon, president; Becky Duprat, vice president; Claire Patterson, secretary; Annette Duprat, assistant secretary; Elaine Chenail, treasurer; Ann Conroy, assistant treasurer; and Elaine Lemieux, chaplain.
WILLIAMSTOWN -- Julia Brooks-Miller, daughter of Dr. Peggy Brooks of Bee Hill Road, Williamstown, and Dr. Kenneth Miller of Springdale Road, Atlanta, Ga., was named the recipient of the Arthur W. Soper Prize Scholarship in Latin at Hamilton College’s Annual Convocation, held Aug. 31. The Scholarship is awarded to a senior who has excelled in Latin and who elects a course in the discipline during the senior year. Brooks-Miller is a senior majoring in classical languages.
