NORTH ADAMS -- Area women are listed as winners in competition at the Barrington Fair last week. In the adult division home furnishing class, Cecil Quimby of North Adams took first place with her wool hooked rugs and Levinia Pytko of Cheshire won second prize for rugs hooked with rags. Second prizes went to Rhoda Herrmann of Adams for best relish and Marceline Piekos of Cheshire for corn relish. ADAMS -- Airman 1.C. Harold Scarbo Jr., son of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Scarbo of 20 Dean St., has returned to his duty station at McConnell Air Force Base in Kansas, after spending a 30-day leave with his parents. He has enlisted for four more years. Airman Scarbo won his first class promotion last October, shortly after he returned from overseas duty.

NORTH ADAMS -- The Drury Blue Devils soccer team beat Hoosac Valley 4-0. Scoring the goals were Chris Glover, Frank James and two by Steve Milette. Assists were made by Shaun Ralston and Jason Howland. Drury goalie Jason Griffin recorded 10 saves and Hoosac goalie John Wol stopped 19 shots.
NORTH ADAMS -- The North Adams Stuart Schouler League held their banquet and awards ceremony recently. Winning rookie of the year awards were Pat Boulger and Tom D’Arcangelo; 13-year-old All-Star most valuable player, Scott Northcutt; top pitcher of the year, Dante Morgano; top player in the age 14-15 Bucky Bullett series, Dan Harrison; top hitter, Don Vitali; and unsung hero award, Matt Davies.

ADAMS -- Alison Cowie, daughter of John and Barbara Cowie of East Street, has graduated from the Army ROTC (Reserve Officer Training Corps) National Advanced Leadership Camp at Fort Lewis, Tacoma, Wash. The camp provides the best possible professional training and evaluation for all cadets in the aspects of camp life. Cowie is a student at James Madison University in Harrisonburg, Va.
WILLIAMSTOWN -- Williams College has announced the following distinguished academics who will teach at Williams during the academic year. Whitney Chadwick has been appointed the Robert Sterling Clark Visiting Professor of Art. Maud Ellmann will be the Bundy Scott Visiting Professor of English. Douglas Gill has been appointed Visiting Professor of Biology. Oded Ir-Shal is the leading Israeli scholar in patristic and rabbinic.
