WILLIAMSTOWN -- James Drummond, Anthony Cilli and Emina Nichols were named last night to represent the Finance Committee on the teachers salary sub-committee for the elementary schools. All three volunteered for the assignments. Other members are Dr. John Martin, Howard Coulter, George Cross, Patricia Lapan, Yvonne Murphy, Norman Burdick, Walter Getchell, Theodore Mehlin and Anne Desmond.
WILLIAMSTOWN -- Two Mt. Greylock Regional High School seniors are among 13,000 high school students who are semi-finalists in the nationwide competition for merit scholarships. They are David Burns, son of Williams College Prof. and Mrs. James Burns of 115 Park St., and Patricia Power, daughter of Williams College Prof. and Mrs. John Power of Gale Road.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- The 1988 Baxter Member-Member Tournament was held recently at Taconic Golf Club. Gross winners were Gary Wood and Chris Casey with 140. Tied for second were Jeff Polucci and Alan Hart and Greg Canales and Steve Iacuessa with 144. Net winners were Sil Lamarre and Jerry Gunzelman with 122.
NORTH ADAMS -- Susan Mead, a developmental specialist at Northern Berkshire Mental Health Association, and Nancy Dunn, a physical education teacher at Hoosac Valley High School, are leading the Public Service and Education Divisions respectively, for the Northern Berkshire United Way campaign. Mead is responsible for recruiting and directing more than 50 volunteers. Dunn is responsible for more than 70 volunteers.

CHESHIRE -- Maybe the secret to running success isn't hundreds of miles of training. Or a strict diet. Or a good set of family genes. Maybe it's just running with a smile. That strategy seemed to work for Hoosac Valley's Phil Demers on Wednesday. He ended up having his best performance this year by placing second overall and first on the Hurricanes, as they upended Wahconah Regional 24-31 in a three-team meet.
CHESHIRE -- In Cheshire Youth Football Junior Division action, the Cheshire Chargers beat Southern Berkshire 8-6. Ben Raimer scored the points for Cheshire and ran over 100 yards. Travis Manning ld the defense with 16 tackles including four solo takedowns, followed by Ryan Poulton who had 12. Nate McGuire pitched in with 11 tackles.
