ADAMS -- Carl Fumante, 17-year-old Adams Memorial High School senior, has been named a National Merit Scholarship semi-finalist. His outstanding performance in the March National Merit Scholarship Qualifying test makes him eligible for the grant of up to $6,000. He is one of 13,000 students in the United States and the territories to reach semifinalist status. CLARKSBURG -- The state Civil Service, after giving examinations for the position of supervisor of the Plymouth Prison Camp, has certified John Keizer of River Road in Clarksburg as one of three men eligible for the job. He is presently a senior officer at the Monroe Forest Prison Camp.

SAVOY -- Selectmen Wednesday night unanimously voted to appoint Gail Carlow of Brier Road to the vacant seat on the School Committee. The other members of the committee are Patricia Decker and Kay LaViola. Carlow was chosen from a field of three candidates. There others were Satyena Ananda and Alice Liebenow.
NORTH ADAMS -- Members of Company A 104th Infantry announced recent promotions. Promoted to second lieutenant was Russell Wright; first sergeant, Gerald Gravel; sergeant, Christopher Demarco and David Vivori; and private first class, Wayne Forrest. Promotion is based on military appearance and bearing, technical and tactical knowledge.

CHESHIRE -- In Cheshire Youth Football Senior Division action, Cheshire beat Southern Berkshire, 14-8. Dalton Larabee and Ryan Joppich scored for the Redskins. Joppich rushed for 155 yards on the day. Larabee led the way defensively with nine tackles, while Mike Fillion had eight and Eric Chipchase with seven. Santino Messer and Josh Clairmont both added an interception.
NORTH ADAMS -- In North Adams Youth Football Junior Division action, the North Adams Cowboys Silver team lost to Pittsfield CYC Green, 30-6. For North Adams the leading tacklers were Michael Tatro with eight, Michael Chapell and Matt Stimpson with six each. Stimpson scored the only touchdown.
