NORTH ADAMS -- A North Adams man was arraigned on charges of kidnapping and assault and battery Monday.
Police say Wayne Senecal, Jr., 27, of West Main Street in North Adams, allegedly assaulted his ex-girlfriend and forced her into his van as she was walking down Union Street on the night of Saturday, Sept. 21.
Senecal was arraigned Monday in Northern Berkshire District Court. His bail was set at $2,500 cash or $25,000 surety bond. In lieu of bail, Senecal will be held at Berkshire County Jail and House of Correction at least until his next pretrial hearing, scheduled for Oct. 7.
According to court documents, the alleged victim told police that she had been walking home from the Key West Lounge when her ex-boyfriend and drove past her in his parents' van.
She told police she hid as Senecal drove past.
Several minutes later, on Union Street, Senecal, without his parents, stopped beside her and got out of the vehicle. The alleged victim says Senecal then punched her in the face and strangled her until she nearly lost consciousness. She was later found to have swelling to her face and red marks on her neck, according to the police report.
Senecal demanded that she drive the van, to which she agreed because she feared for her safety, and she then drove to a nearby bridge, according to the police report. After Senecal had calmed down, she exited the van, slowly walked and then ran home.
