NORTH ADAMS -- Roger King, now in the U.S. Navy, and son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley King of 988 Mohawk Trail, recently completed two weeks training in the Caribbean Sea aboard the frigate USS Luce. King enlisted in the Navy in October 1961.
WILLIAMSTOWN -- Airman Richard Tatro, son of Mr. and Mrs. Godfrey Tatro of 22 Arnold St., is being reassigned to Greenville Air Force Base in Miss., for technical training as an Air Force fire protection specialist. He has just completed his basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base in San Antonio, Texas.

NORTH ADAMS -- North Adams State College President Catherine Tisinger has been named chairwoman of the Massachusetts Council of Presidents of State Colleges. The council is composed of the heads of the nine colleges in the state.
ADAMS -- The time is drawing near for Lance Joppich to head for South Korea and take on the world’s best. Joppich, 16, of 35 Anthony St., the son of James and Bonnie Joppich, will leave next Monday for the Paralympic Games in Seoul. The games allow athletes with disabilities the chance to compete with an equal playing field. Joppich, who has cerebral palsy, will compete in the 10K bicycle race, two running events and two swimming events.

NORTH ADAMS -- With 59 seconds separating its top four runners, the Drury girls’ cross-country team went 1-1 Wednesday in a meet at Monument Mountain against Mount Everett and Wahconah Regional. Colleen Luczynski led the way for Drury, placing 10th overall. Placing 12th through 14th respectively were Amber Lafountain, Hadley Reynolds and Jessica Smosky.
ADAMS -- Marine Corps Lance Cpl. Daniel Gigliotti, son of Debra and Andrew Gigliotti of Adams, recently reported for duty with Marine Wing Squadron 28, 2nd Marine Aircraft Wing, Cherry Point, N.C. He is a 2002 graduate of Charles H. McCann School in North Adams and joined the Marine Corps in August 2002.
