John Leja, center, his wife Janan, and neighbor Ernie LeBeau stand in the back of Leja's yard on Eastview Drive in Cheshire where two giant fungi sit on the ground. While they are smaller now, at their biggest they were 14 inches wide and 11 inches tall according to Leja, who claims to have never seen ‘puffballs' as big as these were. The largest he had ever seen were tennis-ball size. The fungi are edible when they are pure white and are delicious when sliced and fried in butter, according to Leja's wife Janan. These two are apparently past their prime however, and only the squirrels, chipmunks and other forest critters will be enjoying eating them.
