ADAMS -- Seaman John Munn of the U.S. Navy, son of Mr. and Mrs. John Munn of 21 Highland Ave., left Saturday from Idlewild Airport in New York City fr a new assignment in Karamursel, Turkey. The new assignment is a two-year one, with a possible leave at the end of one year. He began active Navy duty early in September after a prior three years of service in the Naval Reserve. NORTH ADAMS -- A North Adams youth, who enlisted in the Navy a year ago last month, has been transferred to Ellyson Field at Pensacola, Fla., to continue his training in naval aviation. He is Airman Apprentice Ray Cote, son of Mr. and Mrs. Bruno Elias of 8 Walnut St. He enlisted Sept. 25, 1962, and had his basic training at the Great Lakes (Ill.) Naval Training Center.

NORTH ADAMS -- Navy Seaman Allen Putnam, son of Herbert and Donna Putnam of 8 Williams St., recently returned from a six month Mediterranean deployment aboard the destroyer tender USS Yosemite, homeported in Mayport, Fla. While deployed he participated in Dragon Hammer II, a NATO exercise. Putnam joined the Navy in January 1985.
NORTH ADAMS -- Willowood Nursing and Retirement Centers has recently appointed Claire Roy, M.S.N., to the position of staff development coordinator for the nursing facilities in both Williamstown and North Adams. Roy joined Willowood after five years at Southern Vermont College in Bennington with the R.N. program.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Rebecca Pohle, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Pohle of Williamstown, a member of the Class of 2007 at Elmira College in Elmira, N.Y., has earned the Presidential Scholarship from he college. The scholarship is valued at $40,000 over four years and is awarded based on rank in secondary school class, overall academic achievement and test scores.
WILLIAMSTOWN -- A Member-Guest Tournament was held Oct. 4 at Taconic Golf Club. The format was best ball of foursomes -- gross and net. Gross winners were John Bourdon, Scott Hunter, Steve Terpak and John Dahrouge with 66, followed by Tom Agnew, Rick, Agnew, Tom Conway and Chipper Donahue with 70. Net winners were George Rickert, Dave Rickert, Tim Rickert and Harold Weyes with 59.
