NORTH ADAMS -- Ten area students are among 11 who have been added to the staff of the Artisan -- yearbook at the McCann Technical Vocational High School. Named from North Adams were Gary Rivers, Diane Gage, Charles Costello, Lee Edwards, Donald Bedard, Michele Batease, Terrance Duverny and Wayne Goddard. Adams students were Lawrence Menard and Wayne Cunningham. NORTH ADAMS -- Robert Caprari, son of Mr. and Mrs. Olympio Caprari of 107 Corinth St., has been promoted to the grade of airman first class in the U.S. Air Force. Stationed at Malmstrom Air Force Base in Montana, he enlisted in February 1961 and took basic training at Lackland AFB, Texas. He is a graduate of Drury High School.

NORTH ADAMS -- In North Adams Men’s P&R Basketball League action, Pitcher’s Mound beat Altiere’s B&G 83-62. Jim Turcotte led Pitcher’s Mound with 26 points, followed by Dave Mackey with 10 points, while Jim Barnes, Dave Mendoza, Chris Reis and Tim Valton scored eight each. Jack Racette scored 21 points in the Altiere’s effort, while John Swift scored 11 and Kit Foster had 10.
ADAMS -- Age doesn’t matter in some things as an Adams couple proved on Oct. 2. Fourth time participants Frederick and Rose Kurpiel of Baskins Lane captured third place in the three-mile competitive walk of the Governor’s Cup in Boston. Mrs. Kurpiel, 68, placed third in the womens’ 65-69 division and Mr. Kurpiel, 70, finished third in the men’s 70-74 division.

CHESHIRE -- In Cheshire Youth Football action, the Cheshire Chargers lost to the Adams Bears, 6-0. Ryan Poulton led the Chargers on defense with 14 tackles. Travis Manning added 13, while Jon Baker collected nine. Ben Kleiner had nine tackles, two sacks and a fumble recovery. Hunter Gaylord picked up six tackles, two sacks and a fumble recovery.
WILLIAMSTOWN -- The Special Olympics Western Section Equestrian competition wa held Oct. 5 in Williamstown. The event was hosted by Oakhollow Stable. Local athletes earning medals were Carrie Piaggi, Sierra Stansfield, Marc Dunn, Ed Gehan, Betsy Hurley and Timothy Bodwell.
